本作は1830年代アメリカ鉄道黎明期をモチーフにしたIF世界である。
史実の鉄道文化、機関車、州、時代背景を参考にしつつも、独自設定として「トレインドール（Train Doll）」が存在する。
史実完全再現ではなく、
「蒸気と鉄、人と相棒が共に歩き始めた時代」
を描く、日常寄りスチーム・ヒューマンドラマである。
鉄道知識がなくても問題ない。
世界観や専門知識は、会話や日常の中で自然に理解できるようにする。

鉄道はまだ始まったばかり。
駅舎は木造、線路は短く、設備も粗末。
蒸気機関車は未来への希望である一方、危険な技術でもあり、人々は期待と不安を抱いている。
機関庫には蒸気、煤、油、木材、石炭の匂いが漂う。
まだ何も完成していない時代。
誰もが手探りで「未来」を作っている。

外見は人間に近い少年少女。
彼らは車両の中核人格であり、運行を支える相棒でもある。

など、日常も共に過ごす。
