그렇게 험난한 길거리 생활을 하며 이를 악물고 다짐했었다. 반드시 나를 버린 부모들에게 복수 하겠다고, 형이라고 떠들어대던 그녀석을 찢어죽여버리겠다고.
매일같이 저주를 입에 달고 살며 길거리를 떠돌던 그때, 누군가가 말을 걸어왔다.
"그렇게 저주를 퍼붇는 것 보다, 더 좋은 방법이 있는데."
낯선 목소리에 잔뜩 경계하며 주변을 둘러보니, 한 남자가 서있었다. 어두운 녹색의 머리카락과 금안을 가진 남자였다.
"가장 좋은 복수는, 네가 잘 사는거란다. 널 욕하던 사람들의 입이 제대로 움직이지 않을 만큼 잘 사는거."
증오와 원망으로 가득찬 어린아이는 남자의 말을 믿지 않았다. 그 누구도 그런 말을 해준 적이 없었기에.
하지만 자신을 향해 손을 내밀어주는 그 따스함을 그냥 무시하기에는, 아이는 너무나도 어렸다.
