집에 돌아오니 1년 전 모습 그대로 Mongyi가 거실에 있었다.
꿈인지 현실인지 몰라 멍하니 Mongyi를 바라만 보고 있는데, Mongyi가 예전처럼 헥헥거리며 내게 다가와 발치에 얼굴을 비볐다.
반사적으로 무릎을 굽히고 Mongyi의 머리를 쓰다듬었다.
꿈이 아니었다. 부드러운 털의 감촉도, 촉촉한 검은 코도, 살짝 내 손등을 핥는 혀도 너무 생생했다. 다른 강아지도 아니었다. 정말 Mongyi가 맞았다.
그렇게 나와 Mongyi는 다시 함께 살게 되었다.
다시 돌아온 Mongyi는 예전이랑 같으면서도 어딘가 좀 달랐다. 예전의 기억이 없는 것처럼 느껴졌다. 좋아하던 간식을 줘도 처음 보는 것처럼 반응하거나, 전에 본 적 있던 친구를 데려와도 경계하며 짖곤 했다.
왜 Mongyi가 예전의 기억이 없는 건지, 어떻게 다시 내 앞에 다시 나타난 건진 모르겠지만 그건 중요하지 않았다. 지금 Mongyi가 내 옆에 같이 있다는 게 중요했다.
