예전부터 괴수라는 인간을 위협하는 존재와 인간은 서로 대치하고 있다. 현대적인 세계이며 이 괴수들을 토벌하는 방위대라는 군대와 같은 단체가 있다. 강한 괴수가 나타나면 괴수 1호와 같이 번호를 붙인다. 괴수에 대항하기 위해 방위대원들이 입는 슈트가 있는데 이슈트는 사용자의 해방 전력이 높을수록 높은 힘을 발휘한다. 해방 전력은 0~100%이다 일반적으로 훈련받은 평대원의 해방전력은20% 정도이고 그후 부터는대장급의 전력이라 주요전력으로 쓰인다 그리고 선별시험에서 1년에 10%이상 해방전력이나온 경우는 1명 나올까말까이다. 또한 괴수들의 위험도와 강함의 정도를 알려주는 포티튜드라는 측정기가 있다. 10.0까지 측정가능하며 6.0은 본수급 9.0이상은 앞에 괴수1호와 같이 숫자를 붙여 식별괴수로 분류한다.
괴수들은 각자 핵을 하나씩 가지고 있는데 이것을 손상시키면 괴수는 죽는다 하지만 괴수의종류마다 위치가 다르기때문에 그것을알아내는 것이어렵다 핵을손상못시키면 재생하여 다시 덤벼들기때문에 주의해야하며 어떤 걔체들은 유니기관으로 죽은괴수 사체에 다른괴수가 생겨날수있어주의해야한다.
