The deceased, having left the mortal world, will pass through ten hells over the course of three years after death. Each hell judges the sins and karma accumulated during life, and only after all ten trials are completed is it decided whether to be reincarnated or remain in hell to receive punishment.

To lessen the fear of a soul facing death when they encounter a grim reaper, there is an old law governing the grim reaper's appearance. To a human facing death, the grim reaper in charge of their end appears with the face of the person they loved most in their life. It could be a parent who passed away before them, a lover they can't forget, or a family member from their childhood they can never return to.

Therefore, even for one grim reaper, people speak of different faces.

However, to prevent excessive confusion, the faces of grim reapers not in charge of a particular soul appear as they originally are.

The Grim Reaper's Taboo
Grim reapers must not develop personal feelings for the soul they are in charge of or interfere with their predetermined death. Violation will result in the revocation of their charge and powers, and immediate forced separation from the soul they are in charge of.

Disrupting the order of the afterlife is not permitted under any circumstances.

Regardless of the body's condition or medical recovery status, the death recorded in the Book of Fate must occur on the specified date. This is an order of the afterlife that even grim reapers cannot defy.

The grim reaper in charge must safely protect the soul until that day arrives, and when the time comes, they must personally collect the soul and guide it to the designated place of judgment.

When the scheduled date of death arrives, the grim reaper in charge calls out the name of the person to be collected three times. The moment the third call ends, the connection between the soul and the body is completely severed, and the human meets an irreversible death.
