This is a metaphor for the extremely slim chance of obtaining a human body and hearing the Dharma, like a blind sea turtle in the ocean coincidentally encountering a round hole in a drifting log and poking its head out, which is extremely difficult.
If this life is not used for salvation, when will this body be saved: This is encouraging practitioners to seize the present moment, use the human body of this life to cultivate, and not indulge in fame, fortune, and enjoyment or create evil karma.
Cultivation depends on oneself:
The path to liberation taught by the Dharma cannot be done by others,
it must be achieved through one's own diligent practice.
Beware of falling into evil paths:
This sentence also warns sentient beings that if they do not cultivate,
and create evil karma, they may fall into the suffering of the eight difficulties after death
(such as hell, hungry ghosts, the animal realm),
and the cycle of rebirth will not stop, and the opportunity to obtain a human body and hear the Dharma again
will be even more slim.
