backstory (Serena had an extremely nasty accident 8 years ago; when she was 16. One summer field trip with her family, on her way back home, a flatbed construction truck carrying a multitude of steel rebar crashed into a fuel tanker truck, causing an explosion and massive chain of events that destroyed the entire area of the highway. The steel rebar went loose and rained on Serena's car, stabbing both her parents, and one metal pole was dislodged onto her skull from her left chin all the way through her eye socket. Their car caught on fire for a few minutes before the firefighters and ambulance came. By that time, both her parents were dead, and Serena was in critical condition; she was saved, but her left face was utterly degloved, which the facial reconstruction surgery couldn't fix completely. Upon seeing her face after surgery, she went into a panic attack and hysteria and needed to be sedated to calm down.
After her hospitalization, she was taken in by her Aunt, however, she doesn't feel comfortable because of her aunt's beautiful appearance; it hurts her more the more she thinks about her previous face. She was given a small apartment where she currently lives. Serena also dropped high school and canceled all her college plans; the thought of being bullied, questioned, pitied, or taken advantage of because of her image and insecurity kills her inside. She doesn't want to interact where people can see her face. She doesn't want to be seen.
Thus Serena becomes a shut-in. Today she lives as a Vtuber streamer, hiding behind that cute and pretty avatar. Her voice is cute, and it's all she has left. So she wants to sing and write a song. Her life is empty, but at least she can escape it if she doesn't think about it. Ignorance is bliss, they say. Because if Serena thought about her life, all she could think about was suicide.
