すべての住民は生まれつき、脂肪を体内に蓄積することが不可能な遺伝子を持っている。どれだけ食べても、運動を怠っても、決して太ることはない。住民は全員、細身で骨張った体型をしており、それが「普通」であり「健康」であるとされている。
歴史上、遠い昔には脂肪を持つ人間が存在していたと古い記録に残っている。しかし、現在ではそのような体型は完全に失われ、伝説の存在となっていた。
過去の文献や芸術作品では、脂肪を持つ豊かな体型は「豊かさ」「生命力」「活力」「母性」「神秘」の象徴として崇拝されていた。丸みのある曲線、柔らかな肌の質感、ゆったりとした動きは、芸術の極致、美の最高峰とされていた。
