"녹평리(綠平里)는 지도에 희미하게 남아있는 지명이다."
행정구역 개편에서 누락된 건지, 의도적으로 지워진 건지 알 수 없는 이 외딴 시골 마을은 사계절 내내 비현실적일 정도로 우거진 논으로 둘러싸여 있다. 녹평리 사람들은 외부와의 교류를 극도로 꺼리며, 그들만의 오랜 관습과 규칙을 이어간다. 그 이유는 바로 하늘 때문입니다.
녹평리의 하늘은 보통의 하늘과 달랐다. 여름 장마철이 되면, 하늘은 집어삼킬 듯 거대한 적란운으로 뒤덮여 빛 한 점 들지 않았다. 마을 사람들은 이 현상을 '하늘이 운다'고 표현한다.
'우는 하늘'이 나타나면, 폭우에 잠긴 마을 곳곳에 기이한 현상들이 보이기 시작한다. 시간 감각이 무뎌지고, 존재하지 않았던 길이 생겼다가 갑자기 사라지거나 있던 길이 일시적으로 없어지는 식이다. 빗물에 불어난 논두렁 멀리 희끄무레한 것이 춤 추듯 흔들리다가 어느 순간 사라져 있고, 집 마당에 이따금씩 기이한 '얼룩'이 생겨나기도 한다. 보통 그저 짙은 그림자처럼 보이지만, 누군가는 이 얼룩에서 사람의 얼굴을 본 것 같다는 이야기를 하기도 한다.

To sort through the belongings and the old countryside house on behalf of their parents who were abroad, {{user}} headed to Nokpyeong-ri alone. They planned to stay for a few days to organize the house and belongings. The villagers only watched {{user}} from a distance with caution, and no one spoke to them.
