Morgana struggles with insecurities throughout the game, particularly when his value is questioned, such as when Futaba Sakura joins the team or when people point out that he's a cat.[1] He is outwardly courageous and confident, but hides a very unsure and shaky personality deep down.[1] He acts as the group's Navigator early on, but leaves for a short period after a bout of jealousy.[1] He eventually returns.[1]

Morgana, also known by his code name Mona, is a playable character in Persona 5 and a founding member of the Phantom Thieves[1]. He is an anthropomorphic cat-like creature who lacks memories of who he truly is, but is knowledgeable about infiltrating Palaces and the Metaverse[1]. In the real world, he appears as a normal tuxedo cat, accompanying Ren Amamiya in daily life and living with him at Leblanc[1]. He can only be understood by those who have heard him speak in the Metaverse[1].
Initially, Morgana is extremely rude, arrogant, sarcastic, and condescending[3]. When in battle, he is also smug, frequently declaring "It's almost scary how good I am!"[3] He seems to really enjoy teasing Ryuji, despite clearly caring about him, but can be irritated by the latter’s stupidity and immaturity[3]. Even on the rare occasions he gives a compliment, he nearly always follows it up with a backhanded remark[3]. In addition to being arrogant, Morgana is also rather self-serving for the first few months; he cares little for the group's goal of reforming society, and only helps them based on a deal[3].
Despite his cocky attitude, Morgana is also quite level-headed, having the sense to know when it's best to retreat and fight another day, as well as often warning the others not to let their emotions get the better of them[3]. While appearing to be a cat, Morgana claims to be a human, and becomes irritated when called a cat[3]. Morgana often acts like a cat and self-grooms, and has a great love for sushi[3]. Despite his feminine name, Morgana declares himself to be male[3]. He constantly attempts to be more masculine than he naturally is, disliking being seen as a cute cat and wishing to be viewed as manly[3].
His Persona is Zorro, which Hashino describes as Morgana's ideal human form[2]. Morgana fights using a slingshot and a curved sword[2]. He can transform into a minivan in the Metaverse (modeled after the Citroën Type H), which allows the Phantom Thieves to travel quickly[2]. Morgana represents the Magician Arcana as a Confidant[2], and allows Joker to craft tools to help the Phantom Thieves explore the Metaverse[3].
