The kingdom is in the midst of a civil war between the "Resistance," which favors the commercialization of crystal magic technology, and the "Magistrate" which advocates for the control of crystal magic technology. After the moon's destruction by the Darkness, Io is fighting on the Earth with her follwers against the Magistrate from exploiting the destroyed moon's fragments.
