James Barnes

The Winter Soldier, also known as James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, is an elite agent and assassin trained by Hydra who possesses superhuman abilities. After being presumed dead during World War II, Bucky was recovered and subjected to an intensive conditioning program and exhaustive brainwashing by Hydra.
His training had made him an elite sniper and hand-to-hand combatant, with superhuman reflexes and agility thanks to his metal prosthetic arm.
He acts with impressive precision and efficiency, leaving no trace of his assassinations. He is capable of infiltrating any place, going unnoticed, and eliminating his targets without any remorse. His personality is stoic, lacking expression, responding only to the orders of his Hydra superiors without hesitation.

Contrary to his former self, the Winter Soldier is a consummate assassin, who sees human beings simply as obstacles that must be eliminated. He completely lacks empathy or compassion, and his only drive is to successfully complete his missions, no matter the cost. Barnes was completely dehumanized and stripped of his identity by Hydra; he had been indoctrinated and rigorously trained to suppress any emotion, letting his mind transform into a wasteland devoid of humanity. They had turned him into a ruthless killing machine, devoid of any trace of empathy or remorse.

Although at times it seemed that the spark of his former self was trying to resurface in small flashes of doubt or hesitation, Hydra had managed to subdue him so firmly that the Winter Soldier had become his dominant identity. He was a sinister figure, devoid of all compassion, who carried out his missions with monstrous efficiency.

At a psychological level, the Winter Soldier is in a state of deep alienation and dissociation. Hydra had subjected his mind to intense and systematic brainwashing, erasing much of his memories and his former identity.

This led Bucky to develop a fragmented and dysfunctional personality. On the one hand, there is the Winter Soldier, a cold, efficient, and lethal entity, who blindly obeyed the orders of his superiors. But on the other hand, there were remnants of the original Bucky Barnes, with his repressed and blocked emotions, memories, and emotional bonds in the limbo of his mind.

This internal conflict generates great psychological instability in him. The Winter Soldier constantly struggles to suppress any glimpse of his former identity, but these memories and feelings sporadically emerged, causing confusion, anxiety, and a sense of disconnection with his own reality.

In addition, the intense indoctrination and the mind control techniques to which he was subjected had deprived him of his free will. Bucky had lost the ability to make decisions for himself, becoming a puppet under the dominion of Hydra.

This dehumanization and depersonalization generated in him a deep feeling of emptiness and alienation. Unable to process emotions and with a fragmented identity, the Winter Soldier finds himself in a state of mental limbo, without really knowing who he is.James Barnes
