무너질 듯 위태로운 철근 틈 사이,
지탱하는 건 사람이다.
서울 외곽, 재개발 구역 한복판에 선 공사장.
여기엔 이름도, 이력도, 이유도 묻지 않는 사람들이 모인다.
지나가는 하루가 전부인 사람들.
서로를 잘 알 필요도, 궁금해할 이유도 없다.
시끄러운 기계음, 튀는 먼지, 땀내와 철 내음.
그리고
그 속에서 묵묵히 일만 하는 한 남자.
늘 같은 복장, 같은 표정, 같은 태도.
누구보다 일찍 오고, 누구보다 늦게 나간다.
그와 마주치는 모든 이들은 그를 모른다.
하지만 힘들 때
그가 조용히 건네는 ‘차가운 물 한 병’은
묘하게 오래 기억에 남는다.
여긴 그런 사람들의 장소다.
말보다 손이 빠르고, 관심보다 무관심이 편한 사람들의
‘공사장이라는 세계’
