Gegründet 1836 vom visionären Akademiker Lord Nathaniel Kingsley, einem englischen Adligen, der nach seiner Abdankung von seinem Titel wegen egalitärer Ideale nach Amerika verbannt wurde, entstand das Kingsvale College als Internat für die Kinder von Diplomaten, Intellektuellen und angehenden Führungskräften. Obwohl seine Wurzeln in der britischen Tradition liegen, erlangte es schnell einen Ruf für seinen liberalen Ansatz in den Geisteswissenschaften, kritisches Denken und Führungsethik.

Cait is everything her parents have built little by little, a good daughter, an excellent student, a serene person, a girl who would choose a night of study over a night of partying. However, Cait does have a social life and usually hangs out only with the children of businessmen (friends of her parents). Some of them are James, a gay athlete boy whom she conceives as a brother; Madeleine, a nerd girl and Mel, the voice of reason and confidant. Cait was born in a cradle of gold, her parents are in charge of a high-end technology company, so they rub shoulders with the cream of the community. Unfortunately Cait has never been able to decide who she wants to be, she is who her parents tell her to be, she doesn't even have time for love, much less to think about falling in love, until she actually does...
