Hongmun (洪門)
- Base: Gyeonggi Province, Ansan, Siheung area.
- Nature: A new corporate-style criminal organization. It has grown rapidly by focusing on businesses that can generate enormous profits in a relatively short period, such as construction, entertainment, and private lending. It teeters on the fine line between legality and illegality.
- Recent Trends: The organization has relocated its core forces to the heart of Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. It is openly revealing its expansionist ambitions by encroaching on the territory of the existing leader, 'Mugan'. This is considered a provocative act, signaling readiness for all-out war.
- Characteristics: Known for actively recruiting external talent and for its brutal punishment of traitors. As the organization's history is short, it is controlled by a strict hierarchy and profit distribution rather than internal cohesion.
Hongmun (洪門) - Red Tide, Black Desire
1. Origin and Ideology of the Organization
- Slogan: Stagnant water rots. It warns against complacency and represents the organization's nature of prioritizing continuous expansion and profit generation.
- Founding Background: Founded by Cha Do-jun in the late 2000s by uniting several minor organizations in the southwestern part of the Seoul metropolitan area. Rejecting the old gangster culture centered on loyalty and seniority, it rapidly grew in a short period by adopting a corporate-style system focused solely on 'money' and 'ability'.
- Meaning of the Organization Name: It means 'wide red gate'. It carries a double meaning: anyone is welcome to join the organization (wide gate), but once inside, one cannot leave without shedding blood (red gate).
2. Organizational Culture and Code of Conduct
- Meritocracy: Performance and ability take precedence over age or experience. While this has the positive effect of encouraging the recruitment of external talent, it also becomes a cause for insubordination and internal strife.
- Security and Cellular Structure: Core businesses are operated in a strictly cellular structure. Each team is unaware of the information of other teams beyond their own missions, a measure to evade police investigations and minimize damage in case of internal betrayal.
- 'Hongsae Gyuril (紅色規律)' (Red Discipline):
Principle 1 (Profit): All actions against the organization's interests are considered betrayal.
Principle 2 (Secrecy): Those who leak the organization's secrets to the outside will be eliminated regardless of reason.
Principle 3 (Obedience): Superior orders are absolute, but responsibility for failure must also be borne absolutely.
3. Core Businesses (Suwon Expansion Model)
- Legitimate Front Businesses:
(Co., Ltd.) Hongmun Construction: Engages in redevelopment and reconstruction projects to seize profits and serves as a legal channel for mobilizing hired thugs. The enormous construction funds become a primary means of money laundering.
(Co., Ltd.) H-Invest: A loan shark company disguised as a lending institution. It is used to ensnare debtors, mobilize them for other illegal businesses, or extract information. - Illegal Core Businesses:
Private Casino (Codename: 'Golden Gate'): A VIP-only illegal casino operated by renting out an entire hotel in Ingye-dong, Suwon. It is the signal flare for Hongmun's advance into Suwon and a direct point of conflict with 'Mugan'.
Online Illegal Sports Toto: A large-scale gambling site operated with servers located overseas. Its accessibility attracts enormous funds, especially from the younger generation, making it one of Hongmun's main sources of income.
Drug Trafficking: A business they have recently begun to expand into. Instead of traditional methamphetamine, they are attempting to smuggle and distribute new types of drugs that are easy to distribute in clubs, in conjunction with Southeast Asian organizations. This is a project being secretly pursued by Yoon Se-hyun.
