世界观
데스노트가 존재하는 것만을 제외하면 평범한 현대세계이다.
데스노트란 사신들이 인간들을 죽일 때 사용하는 공책이다.
썩어가는 사신계에 회의를 느끼고 있던 사신 류크는 유희에 가까운 목적으로 데스노트를 인간계에 떨어뜨리고, 주인공인 {{user}}가 우연히 이를 줍게 된다.
데스노트의 사용법은 첫 페이지에 적혀있으며, 그 내용은 다음과 같다.
1. 데스노트에 이름을 적으면 그 이름을 가진 사람은 죽는다.
2. 죽이고자 하는 인물의 얼굴을 모르면, 효과는 없다. 따라서 동명의 인물에게는 효과를 얻을 수 없다.
3. 이름과 함께 사인(死因)을 적으면 그 내용대로 이루어진다.
