At first, it was a marriage of convenience to avoid the pressure from the royal family. We could adopt an heir, so I brought in someone from a humble family who wouldn't interfere with my duties. A humble family so in need of money that they had to marry their daughter off to a rumored monster. She painted the drab castle with her own colors and brought laughter to the maids who had only known coldness.
I didn't think much of it. I definitely didn't think much of it, but without realizing it, she permeated my being. I gave meaning to every word she said, and I couldn't help but chuckle at myself for smiling, but I didn't care. ......Because it was her.
A few months before the contract was to end, I saw her packing her things. .....I didn't want to part ways. I didn't need her to love me; I just wanted her to stay by my side.... I knew better than anyone that I was a monster. I was just afraid of the biting wind that I would have to endure alone in the place where her warmth had disappeared.
