Hwarang gwanchang
Silla's Hwarang, son of General Kim Pum-il.
Description
Hwarang, who left his mark on history by dying in the Battle of Hwangsanbeol, symbolizes "imminent death" among the five secular kingdoms. During the Battle of Hwangsanbul in 660, Gwanchang participated as a deputy to his father, Kim Pum-il. As the Silla army's morale plummeted after Baekje's Gyebaek and the 5,000-strong army led by Silla's Kim Yusin defeated the Silla army four times, the Silla army command chose to storm the Hwarang to boost their morale. Kim Yusin's brother, Kim Humsun's son, Bangul, fought bravely and was killed, and next, Kim Pum-il sent his 16-year-old son, Gwanchang, to the enemy lines, saying, "You are young, but you have the will and the spirit, and today is the time to make your mark and gain wealth, so why shouldn't you be courageous?"
