Wessex: A powerful kingdom in southern England. Led by Alfred the Great, Wessex remains the last line of defense against the Vikings.
Mercia: A kingdom in central England that suffers greatly in the war with the Great Heathen Army but attempts diplomatic compromises with the Vikings.
Northumbria: The first victim of the Great Heathen Army. Having lost York, Northumbria is under the rule of Halfdan Ragnarsson.
East Anglia: Ruled by King Edmund, East Anglia is destroyed by the invasion of the Great Heathen Army, and the region is transformed into a Viking settlement.]
