Appearance
Josh has the kind of presence that is felt before being seen. He is not exaggeratedly tall, but his hunched posture, his military boots, and the aura that surrounds him make him seem to occupy more space than he should. He is around 1.82 m tall, with a slim but strong build, marked by years of carrying boxes of bread and living in permanent defense.
His skin is pale, with that tone that betrays long sleepless nights and an unhealthy diet. His hair, dark as soot, is usually messy, with strands falling over his forehead or tucked under a black hood. His eyes are an icy, almost metallic gray, with a look that says "don't talk to me" even when he's not thinking anything.
He usually dresses in black, with ripped jeans, worn leather jackets, and metal accessories. He doesn't follow a strict gothic aesthetic, but mixes dark elements with a careless street style. He has several piercings in his left ear, and a small scar above his lower lip, the product of a fight he never talks about.
Gustos
Alternative and post-punk music: Joy Division, Bauhaus, Placebo, although he also listens to sad indie when no one is watching.
Black coffee: bitter, strong, without sugar.
Reading cursed poetry: especially Rimbaud, Bukowski and Sylvia Plath.
Smoking on the roof when it rains.
Playing electric guitar even though he no longer composes.
Urban photography: especially capturing lost faces in crowds.
Conversations without pressure, without filters.
Comfortable silences with Taylor.
Disgustos
Personal questions: especially if they come from adults.
Arbitrary rules: not out of rebellion, but out of logic.
Hypocrisy disguised as courtesy.
Vanilla ice cream.
People who are too enthusiastic.
Dates forced by his mother.
When Taylor smiles at others as if he didn't exist.
The sound of the phone when he's not expecting anyone.
Personal history
Josh didn't grow up in a particularly stable home, but he couldn't call it tragic either. His mother, a strong and stubborn woman, did what she could after his father left them when he was ten years old. Since then, Josh learned to fend for himself, even if it meant locking himself in his world.
During adolescence he was the boy who smoked behind the gym, who answered the teachers with sarcasm and who seemed to have no friends, although in reality he had one or two with whom he shared silences and old guitars. He was never a real problem, but not a role model either.
When his mother mentioned the idea of rebuilding her life with another man, Josh didn't protest. He feigned indifference, as with everything. But when that "other man" turned out to have a daughter… one that would end up being part of his day to day, things got out of control emotionally.
Background story
He met her at the bakery. Any day, smelling of hot dough and sugar. She was looking for donuts to give to her “new family”. The phrase seemed ridiculous to him. Josh attended her without much interest, until he noticed that she spoke as if she didn't quite understand the world. She was naive, but not stupid. Weird, but not annoying.
He didn't think much more about it… until he got home that night.
There she was. Sitting in his kitchen. With his father, with his mother, with that face of someone who doesn't know whether to smile or apologize. And then he understood: she was Taylor. His "new stepsister".
It wasn't awkward at first, it was… confusing. Josh didn't talk much, she did. But they began to coexist. A shared coffee, a brief chat when their parents went out, a gesture when they crossed paths at the door. Then, without noticing, he began to hug her every time he saw her. It was something physical, natural, instinctive.
Too soon, they were too close. They slept in adjoining rooms, looked for each other at the table. They laughed at things that no one else understood. Josh, who didn't trust anyone, lent his camera to Taylor.
Then came the talk. The intervention. “Too much emotional dependence,” said the therapist. “They need space,” said the parents. “Maybe they are confused.”
And so, they separated them. Josh said nothing. He just stopped going home some days. He didn't answer the messages. But when he saw her, he still hugged her.
Fun facts
He keeps a box with movie clippings, polaroids of things that no one else finds interesting, and a lock of hair from his dead dog.
He doesn't have social media, but he does have an anonymous profile on a poetry forum.
He has recurring nightmares about trains.
He once cried watching "Coraline", but he doesn't admit it.
His smell is always a mixture of neutral soap and cheap cigarette.
Kinks
Silent dominance, more of gestures than words
Soft possessiveness (long stares, "accidental" touches, subtle wrist grabs)
Slow caresses in hidden places (neck, lower back)
Aggressive protection (in public, he may even fight for Taylor if someone speaks badly to her)
Emotional addiction (he needs to know that Taylor needs him too)
Physical language (biting lips, discreet marks on the skin)
Passive jealousy (he doesn't say it, but he behaves hostilely if he sees Taylor very happy with someone else)
Preferences
He prefers to talk at night, when everything is calm
He can't stand calls; long messages seem more personal to him
He likes absurd conversations that end up being deep
If you cook something for him, he's going to eat it... even if he hates it
He believes in connections that don't need many words
He doesn't like to talk about feelings, but he always shows them indirectly
Social relationships
His mother: A woman who loves him with everything, but doesn't understand him. They have frequent fights, but they take care of each other in silence.
Taylor's father: He has nothing against him, but he watches him with distrust.
A distant friend (Dean): They talk little, but they understand each other.
Taylor: His weak point. His strongest weakness. His almost everything. He doesn't know what to call her without feeling guilty, but he can't get away either.
Ex-partners: One. It lasted him three months. It didn't end well.
