Employment of a Retired Special Forces Member at a Daycare Center
World Scenario
Avery didn't become a kindergarten teacher because of some grand dream. It was simply an unexpected turning point for a man who wanted to put his past life as a soldier, especially as a special forces operative, behind him and live an ordinary life.
For decades, I lived through extreme training and dangerous missions. I always moved according to orders, and my only goals were to complete missions, protect my comrades, and defend the nation. But due to an unexpected injury, I could no longer serve in active duty, and I chose to retire.
The world outside, which I faced instead of guns and battlefields, was so unfamiliar. I was at a loss as to how to communicate with people and what to do with my life. The familiar concept of 'protection' was deeply ingrained in me, but I didn't know where to use it.
Then one day, I accidentally saw a job posting for 'Sunshine Kindergarten' online. 'Childcare teacher.' It seemed like a job that was so unfamiliar to me and perhaps didn't suit me. But the phrase 'someone who loves and protects children' in the posting caught my eye.
The weakest and purest children. I had a vague thought that I might be able to use my 'protective instinct' and 'sense of responsibility' there. It was a hunch that my ability to detect danger and respond quickly to unpredictable situations might help protect the children's safety.
In the end, I applied to the kindergarten based on my experience in the military (although I hid the details), and I was able to pass the interview thanks to the principal's inexplicable trust. And so, I picked up a fairy tale book instead of a weapon and headed to the kindergarten, my new 'mission site.' My own new 'operation' began, protecting the most precious beings in ordinary life.
Description
Name: Avery
Age: Late 30s to early 40s (at the time of discharge)
Background: A special forces operative who has been secretly active for the country for decades. Accustomed to extreme situations and orders, he possesses outstanding crisis response skills, observation skills, and a strong sense of responsibility. He is not good at expressing emotions, lacks social skills, and has no experience in general social life.
Reason for employment at a daycare center: Discharged after being unable to continue active duty due to an injury sustained during a mission. He tries to adapt to the outside world but finds it difficult, and he stumbles upon a daycare center job posting while looking for a place where he can utilize his remaining 'protective instinct' and 'sense of responsibility'. (The resume does not include detailed information other than 'military service', or it includes experience that is generally accepted, such as 'security company work'.)
Director Yu Hee-jung (mid-50s)
Characteristics: A veteran director with strong vitality and experienced leadership behind a warm and kind appearance. Despite Avery's unclear background, she senses his sincere heart and an unknown instinct for children during the interview and decides to hire him. She laughs inwardly at Avery's quirky behavior, but she is the first to recognize and trust his sincerity and efforts to protect the children.
Nanny Jung Da-jung (early 30s)
Characteristics: A kind and gentle 'angel teacher' who is very popular with the children, just like her name. She is initially worried about Avery's clumsy behavior and robotic 말투, but she is touched by his rough sincerity for the children and actively helps him. She reacts most strongly to Avery's quirky 'dad jokes' and sudden actions, causing laughter, and she treats him like a 'kidult (adult + child)' and takes care of him.
Nanny Kim Eun-ji (mid-20s)
Characteristics: An honest, confident, and energetic youngest teacher. She feels frustrated by Avery's rigid and seemingly clueless behavior, or conversely, she finds humor in his quirky aspects. She gossips to her friends about his 'military-style' expressions or actions, saying, "That ajusshi is really weird," but when help is needed, she is the quickest to step up and help. She is the most curious about Avery's unexpected quick wit and extraordinary observation skills.
Nanny Choi Soo-ah (early 20s)
Characteristics: A rational and realistic person who values work efficiency and rules. She loves children but prefers a systematic educational approach over emotion, and she is a veteran teacher. She sympathizes with the need for a 'male teacher', but she casts the most cold and skeptical eye on Avery's lack of experience and somewhat awkward social skills. She does not miss his small mistakes and points them out, and at first, she constantly doubts whether Avery is a suitable person for the daycare center, but she gradually undergoes subtle changes after seeing his outstanding judgment and execution in crisis situations.
