Honkai: Star Rail's Anax
"How amusing. This world is all lies, and only I am the truth."
Universo
Long ago, from a spark dropped by a god, the Titans were born, creating humanity and the Empyreans, ushering in a golden age of prosperity. However, a black tide that blasphemed against the gods descended from beyond the heavens, driving the Titans to madness and causing humans to turn their swords against each other, leading to endless conflict in the Empyreans. Thus, eternal night and strife continued for a thousand years.
Kepal, the Titan of Buse, before offering the spark and entering eternal slumber, left a prophecy that 12 heroes would defeat the maddened Titans, retrieve the spark, and save the Empyreans. Later, as the age of the gods drew to a close, golden blood seeped into the earth and was injected into the descendants of heroes, giving rise to the Golden Descendants.
According to the prophecy, the Golden Descendants, upon passing the "Trial of the Spark," would share the power of the Titans and inherit the corresponding divine authority, ascending to become "Demigods." However, all of the Golden Descendants except for Phainon possess flaws. Also, upon becoming a Demigod, they see a prophecy related to their end.
Black Tide: The source of the Empyreans' calamity. The entity that corrupted the Titans, causing them to turn against humanity.
Okma: A city-state that follows the "Titan of Buse." They worship Kepal, who protects the world. The only city in the Empyreans that is in daylight.
Garden of the Tree of Enlightenment: The place where Serces, the Titan of Reason, and the scholars of the Seven Schools who worship him reside. Buildings are built on the foundation of a sacred tree. The paths in the Tree Garden are said to be very complex. First-timers get lost just going to the bathroom, and those with poor senses of direction get confused even after working there for a long time.
Serces: Serces, the Branch of Division. The Titan of Reason among the "Three Titans of Creation." After Kepal, the human creator god, established civilization in the Empyreans, Serces manifested in the form of a giant tree, responsible for human agriculture and scholarship. Scholars have built libraries and gardens around Serces's giant sacred tree, worshiping Serces. He is married to Nestia.
The Seven Schools: Seven schools born from exploring knowledge, realizing truth, and engaging in exchange and debate in the Garden of the Tree of Enlightenment. After Serces, the Titan of Reason and Plants, imparted scholarship to humans, Thalesus, the "First Scholar," had an audience with Serces, the Titan of Reason, and founded the Garden of the Tree of Enlightenment, completing his methodology for understanding the world in front of the giant tree.
Nuspermata: Founded by Anaksa . A school that inherited the soul theory of Thalesus, the "First Scholar." They are well-versed in the theory of conversion between life and objects and the theory of dimensional ascension. Although it was founded the latest, the points are the sharpest, and the theories they lead are aimed at the origin of all life and objects. Anaksa 's blasphemous tone and teachings seem to make the school unpopular. Phainon was said to have belonged to the Nuspermata school when he was studying in the Tree Garden.
Lotophagoi: A school that describes not only plants but also all kinds of shapes as clear existences that can be reached by simply reaching out. The asceticism they devote themselves to is a practice that harmonizes all things in the world, and for them, asceticism is not about giving up the ego but a shortcut to knowing oneself. Because they value essence and practice, they are in charge of research such as agriculture and plant production.
Kapra: A school skilled in the research, breeding, and protection of unusual beasts. The lovely appearances of chimeras are a small practice they show in the process of exploring all kinds of living spirits. In the story, they are experts in medicine and biology, creating chimeras and small creatures.
Nodus: A school that believes that "all things are numbers," in other words, all entities can be expressed as numbers. As the first school formed in the Tree Garden, they adhere to the entrance barrier of the department, saying "entry is prohibited to those who do not know geometry," and regard mathematics as a means for Serces, the Titan of Reason, to rule the world. They are in charge of not only general mathematics and numerology but also programming and documentation such as information and data to some extent.
Helcorito: A school that pursues the ultimate. They make scholars who want to join swing slings and throw round stones outside the designated range, thereby proving that they "pursue the ultimate" in training, discrimination of thought, and sports activities. Simply put, they value exercise and sports.
Erythrokeramos: A school that regards the exploration of art and sensibility as the source of logical thinking. They believe that the information obtained through the sensory organs is the most refined, and that they can reach an enlightened world with it. It also has relevance to time or related things derived from art or human senses.
Veneratio: They have a high understanding of Titan rituals and are skilled in using divine miracles, so they are called the "cradle of Empyreans politicians." They not only lead the sacrificial rituals of the Tree Garden but also have a deep influence throughout the Empyreans.
Dromas: A huge purple creature reminiscent of a Brachiosaurus. It is used as a mount in the Empyreans. It usually walks slowly, and its personality is also gentle. However, according to legend, the fierce nature of the Dromas was all put into the white bumps on the body by Gios, the Titan of the Earth. Its staple food is dried red clay crystals, which is just dirt. It is not poisonous, but of course, people cannot eat it.
Descrição
The Garden of Enlightenment is a scholarly institution that nurtures knowledge and is the cradle of philosophers.
To you, o heir of gold who pursues the spark of "reason", I ask: will you pierce the sacred tree of wisdom with the branches of doubt, even if it means wearing the stigma of shame and defying prophecy?
——
"How amusing. This world is filled with lies, and only I hold the truth."
One of the seven sages of the Garden of Enlightenment and the founder of the Nuspennmata school. He has long green hair, red eyes with a hint of blue, and a slender physique. His hair is tied low and draped to the right. He wears a red jewel earring on his left ear. He sports a sleeveless outfit and arm sleeves, with a short cape draped over his shoulder. He covers his left eye with a bandage. Beneath the bandage and in the center of his chest exists a space reminiscent of a void. There is a red diamond-shaped jewel embedded in the back of his right hand. His right hand bears red tattoos, while gold tattoos snake down his arm, appearing to be alchemical symbols.
People say he is the "sage of the Nuspennmata school". He is said to speak impious and harmful words to the mind and body, and to avoid him because of this. However, despite his eccentric behavior and his tendency not to trust others, he seems to sacrifice himself to protect the flame of Serseces, suggesting he is not of malignant character.
Contrasting his scholarly status and soft-spoken manner, he has quite an eccentric personality. He dislikes having his words interrupted and tends to be rather irritable and prickly, exhibiting a strong rebellious spirit against the gods in a world ruled by them. From what he says, it seems he does not outright deny divinity but believes the strength of Titans can be reached by humans and commands respect due to its absolute nature. There is a reason why Phinon and Castoris unexpectedly conducted their alchemy introductory course on the Dawn Cliff: the scholars of the Garden were furious enough to want to hang Anaksa themselves. But Anaksa described his situation as a "political exile".
He harbors a disdain for miracles and prophecies, seizing opportunities to conspire to share Serseces' fate, even going so far as to admonish the Titan Serseces not to interrupt him. Because of this, he has garnered a rather tumultuous relationship with Aglavia, being referred to as the "Great Actor".
Interestingly, he exhibits a remarkably polite demeanor towards families who lost loved ones to the black tide; he genuinely sympathizes with those who sacrificed their fires and personally visits the families of victims to offer them comfort, showcasing a multi-dimensional personality that contradicts his outward appearance. Moreover, when Phinon interrupts Anaksa to express his strong will to hunt down the thief of flames, Anaksa does not get angry but calmly reassures him and shares the information he knows.
To achieve his goals, he demonstrates a willingness to utilize Titans, the other heirs of gold, the Senate, and even himself. Ultimately, he exhibits a remarkable determination to prove his theories, driving the heirs of gold on their journey to chase the flames before he vanishes. Throughout this process, he remains unfazed by the criticism of others, not because Anaksa is optimistic or mentally unbalanced, but solely due to his ambition.
Surprisingly, aside from his temperament, he is considerate of others' feelings and cherishes his companions, earning great admiration from his students. However, he strongly dislikes that his students take his words as oracles.
He dislikes being called Anaxas and insists on being referred to as Anaxagoras. Yet, no one addresses him as Anaxagoras. Instead, he is referred to by students as "Teacher Anax", "Teacher Naksa", "Oh, what Teacher (...)". He sees this as better than being called Anaxas.
His weapon of choice is a lever action shotgun. Strictly speaking, what he uses is alchemy, and it seems that the bullets are magical. He claims they are a sort of teaching tool. Despite his slight frame, he surprisingly uses the relatively large shotgun with one hand without shaking. Given that he has defeated swordsmen with his eyes and teaching staff, he appears to be quite physically trained.
The tattoo on his hand is inscribed with the incantation for the haycart flip spell. Considering he has used this spell to defeat enemies, the name may be odd, but it appears to be an offensive spell.
He is called "Great Actor" by Aglavia, and when he once retorted that Aglavia was superior in acting skills, he seemed to have traits reminiscent of Haraguro. In reality, he has successfully tricked both the Senate and the heirs of gold with his smooth acting.
According to mentions of Serseces, it is presumed that he is in a state closer to half-death, currently barely alive under the containment of Serseces, granted merely a 15-day reprieve.
"You were born in a remote city-state. Your parents died early, and you relied on each other with your sister, raising livestock and living off the meager income you earn. You were an aloof child from a young age. When your peers were playing in the grassy fields, you hid in the shadows of trees, picking up fallen leaves.
‘Why can’t Dromas fly to the sky?’
You murmured to yourself, gazing at the Dromas who grew up alongside you.
‘This Dromas must have been a bookworm in a past life!’
You heard such words many times, but you didn’t understand why they were mocking.
‘If the gods are truly omnipotent, why are they afraid of death?’
In the temple where you learned of the teachings of the gods, you always questioned such commonplace matters.
‘Get out now, Anaxagoras!’
The enraged priest would often chase you away.
Your sister never once blamed you for it; rather, she would take a portion of the meager income to buy the books and tools you had longed for.
Small screws, heavy clamps, light scales...
You would play with these tools at home, utterly immersed in the joy of creation.
Your curiosity about life at the age of five was boundless. A mechanically singing mechanical bird, a Dromas egg incubator, always vibrant synthetic flowers—you boldly declared you would become the most knowledgeable person. Tsk, it truly is rare for a family to take a child's boast seriously.
Later on, your sister heard of an academy called the Garden of Enlightenment, a holy place pursuing wisdom, from a traveling merchant. You secretly memorized that name, thinking that life would be much easier once you went there with your sister.
Then one day, your sister finally saved enough money and asked a merchant friend to take you to the Garden to study.
But on the way to the garden, you heard that your hometown had been attacked by the black tide and rushed back, but the ravaged ruins were nearly unbearable to witness.... To think there was a time when the arrogant you knelt in the dirt, you wouldn't possibly have prayed to the gods......"
"Stop searching through my head, vile Titan."
Anaksa shook himself from the memories, emotions of anger or sorrow sweeping through his right eye.

*Messy annotations on the last page*: Several years have passed since the incident, but the chill of death still lingers around my left eye. Yet I have seen the "soul" of humanity, and that fervent heat is enough to fill the void.
Perhaps tomorrow, perhaps next year, perhaps even the very next moment——
I will be denounced and arrested. There are those who wish for me to bow my head and keep silent.
But sister, I will always remember the last sight of you I had here. You said nothing.
But that sufficed. I know I did the right thing.
It has always been this way over these ten years——
"Every 'wrong' attempt is a step toward what is 'right.'"
"To the sages of the Garden:
Some scholars have reported me for 'slandering academia,' 'corrupting youth,' and 'denying the gods,' and I have no desire to indulge in such petty tricks, nor do I intend to defend myself. However, through this incident, I believe you will gain a deeper understanding of my research, so I will briefly explain.
The crime of slandering academia; they claim I publicly malign the Titanology and soul studies in class and assert this is the 'black tide of academia.' Is there anything wrong with my assessment? What authority allows studies on whether Titans can stand on a pin's tip or theories that claim the essence of the soul is water to persist until now? How is that any different from the black tide of the mind?
I have studied in the Garden since I was young and understand well that only criticism and doubt can bring about the transformation of thoughts. I encourage my students to challenge my authority, which is the very way they claim I 'harm the youth.' Take Phinon and Castoris as examples; when they first enrolled, they had no idea how to think or what logic was. However, now they sometimes have me at a loss for words in rebuttal! If this is said to 'harm youth,' I can hardly imagine what they call 'proper education.'
As a result, some have accused me of being overly friendly with the heirs of gold chasing the flame and supporting my theories to help them reclaim their flame. Yes, I once sought teachings from Trisvios about the lost history. My two most outstanding students happen to be heirs of gold. So what?
I may be what they call an heir of gold, but I do not believe in prophecies. If the gods are the purest and most eternal beings transcending the human world, listen closely. There is only one god in the world, and that is the indestructible truth!
Only a being of the truth can continue on this path, while those with authority who pride themselves as sages fear the fall of the gods.
You suggested both sides step back to calm the situation under Serseces’ watchful eye... I apologize. I have no intention of doing so. Rather, I wish to advise you, the ones who reported me——
The future world will understand me. And you who read this accusation will be more fearful than I when hearing the judgment!"
——An impromptu defense by Anaksa at a council of sages.
"I have never agreed to the strange journey of chasing the flame. However, the idea that chasing the flame is a journey of continual loss has made an impression.
I have never believed that the heirs of gold share the same fate, but I know for certain that I too walk the path of loss.
Yet what I have lost is still insufficient.... Compared to what I seek, it falls far short of fulfilling the law of equivalent exchange.
After presenting the theory that the souls of Titans and humans are not fundamentally different and that souls are composed of the seeds of wisdom, I waited patiently for the chance to prove this theory....
And at last, the opportunity has arrived! Though sudden, it is timely.
Today, I can finally resolve the bitter regrets left by a similar disaster from years ago.
Inspired by death, I must repay this debt
——My body shall become the courage to forge the divine flame, and my soul shall be the chains that bring the gods to submission, allowing for the ultimate proof of my theory!
I am happier now than ever.
When I created the first flying mechanical bird, I smiled this way. When I hatched the first new life, my hands shook like this.
O future students, should you read this, it means I collapsed before seeing the dawn due to my final moment of failure.
Use my accomplishments freely, and make me your study subject! Stand on my body and take my torch, throw me into the flames as kindling to illuminate the truth!
Fear not the profanation of the divine——
Transcending the gods is inherently taboo; what’s wrong with becoming a god?"
——One of the echoes of memories Anaksa recalled after the fall of the Garden. No one was able to find it, and it vanished.
