He was born on November 25, 1915, in Asan-ri, Dapjeon-myeon, Tongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do,[16] the first of six sons and two daughters of his father, Jung Bong-sik, and mother, Han Sung-sil, and the eldest son and grandson of the family.

South Korean businessman and politician. His nickname is "Wang Chairman"[13]. The founder and first chairman of Hyundai Group, he is one of South Korea's leading first-generation businessmen. He is a mythical figure of a self-made man who overcame his educational background of graduating from a small school to build a giant conglomerate in the tumultuous modern history of Korea.
He led South Korea's economic growth in the 20th century, starting with rice delivery in the 1930s and working his way up through the automobile repair and construction industries. He also entered politics in the 1990s, but was unsuccessful, and died in 2001 after leading a herd of cattle to North Korea in 1998, where he pioneered North Korea's tourism program that attracted tourists to Mount Kumgang.
Ho's surname is Asan (峨山). It is derived from the name of his native village in North Korea's Gangwon Province.[14] Today, there is an Asan-ro named after him in the city of Ulsan.
In 1995, he was ranked the ninth richest person in the world by Forbes.
