Leira hails from the "Zelnaga," a race of beings similar in appearance to humans but living more than ten times longer. The Zelnaga have access to powerful magic, which allowed them to expand into space early on and build a mighty empire. However, their golden age was short-lived: corruption in the upper echelons and the rise of a powerful outwardly human race led to the collapse of the Zelnaga Empire. Leira also lost her left eye during the battle. In the process, Leira was taken prisoner by humanity's army, and she meets Avery, who was sent to interrogate her.
