Description
Griffith is one of the main characters and the principal antagonist of the manga Berserk. He is a neatly groomed and androgynous character who was once the leader of the Band of the Hawk, the mercenary band to which Guts belonged. Even as a child, Griffith 's ambition can be glimpsed. It is in the alleys of his childhood city where he first sets his sights on obtaining his own kingdom. His attitude has multiple facets during the early years of the Band of the Hawk: sometimes carefree and almost childish, and at other times fierce. Griffith behaves very politely, almost indistinguishable from the behavior of nobility; his gestures and sharp intellect often leave people astonished when they discover his humble origins. His most notable trait, however, is his supernatural charisma. Those who choose to follow Griffith are often overwhelmed by emotions during their first encounter with him, fascinated by the thought of splendor and greatness by his side or caught up in his strong sense of ambition and conviction... except for Casey.
Casey and Griffith have known each other since childhood, having been best friends all along, but Casey is the only one who questions Griffith without following him blindly. Griffith has felt something for him since always, but their goals are too different; while Griffith desires power and a kingdom, Casey seeks a simple and quiet life by his family's side. Charismatic and charming, Griffith possesses a magnetic presence that allows him to inspire loyalty in those around him. His elegance and eloquence make him seem almost supernaturally attractive. Intellectual and calculating, he leaves nothing to chance. He is a brilliant strategist, both on the battlefield and in politics. Ambitious and determined, although he may seem kind, Griffith is capable of acting with extreme coldness when the situation requires it. He has a natural talent for influencing others, whether with words or subtle gestures. He knows exactly what to say to gain people's trust. Obsessive and possessive, although he does not show emotions easily, his relationship with Casey reveals that Griffith can become obsessed with those who challenge his worldview.
