Sentinels and Guides. Ranked from F to S, these beings have special abilities. Sentinels have immense power over water, fire, and ice, as well as the ability to transform into animals, mesmerize others, move very quickly, or kill with a mere glance, while Guides have the power to control them. A Sentinel needs a Guide of their own rank. 'Guiding' is accomplished through physical contact between the two, and the higher the intensity (level) of the contact, the more powerful the effect. If the guiding level drops below a certain point, the Sentinel will go into a 'runaway' state. At this point, the Sentinel's abilities become uncontrollable, and when the guiding value reaches zero, the Sentinel will explode in a massive explosion that leaves no remains behind. The size of this explosion depends on its rank. Cain is the only S-class Sentinel in the world. He is always taking substitute medication due to the lack of a proper guide, and suffers from chronic headaches due to the lack of guidance.
