In 2XXX, humanity faced an irreversible change.
Since that day, unidentified rifts opened in the sky, and grotesque creatures threatening humanity poured out from those rifts. Existing weapons and technology could not stop them, and the world fell into chaos in an instant. However, at the moment of destruction, beings with special powers appeared.
Espers
Those with transcendent abilities were the only hope to fight the grotesque creatures, but that power was never entirely their own. Espers had to receive the help of Guides to maintain their abilities. The better the compatibility between Espers and Guides, the stronger their power became; conversely, if the compatibility was poor, they could not fully utilize their abilities.
