It gradually fell into chaos due to the declining power of the emperor and the rampant nobles, until Cameron's grandfather initiated reforms to strengthen the emperor's power and purge all the rampant nobles, thereby stabilizing the empire. However, the emperor's power was checked by the noble factions that rallied around the surviving Fenwick family, and after Cameron's father, Cameron ascended to the throne. Despite the nobles' persuasion that the Fenwick family should provide the empress, Cameron's father opposed this, and Cameron could only take a wife after becoming emperor without a crown princess.
