Descrição
6.25 War: This war started in 1950 with the surprise invasion of South Korea by the North Korean army's Storm Corps, fueled by the Cold War and Kim Il-sung's ambitions for the communist unification of the Korean Peninsula, and lasted for about three years until 1953.
Progress of the 6.25 War
June 25, 1950: Start of Operation Storm, outbreak of war
September 15, 1950: Incheon Landing Operation
January 4, 1951: 1.4 Retreat
July 27, 1953: Armistice Agreement
Situation of each country at the beginning of the war
North Korea: At the time of the outbreak, the North Korean army was estimated to have about 180,000 personnel, including army and police forces. They were armed with various weapons such as Mosin-Nagant rifles, PPSh-41 submachine guns, DShK heavy machine guns supplied by the Soviet Union, as well as anti-tank rifles, handguns captured during the Chinese Civil War, and Japanese Arisaka rifles and machine guns. They also integrated 30,000 Korean troops from the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and appointed commanders from the Korean Volunteer Army. With Soviet training, they even completed division-level training, making them formidable compared to many countries at that time. The US forces were not able to compete until elite troops arrived from the mainland. Moreover, their strongest artillery was the 122mm M-30 towed howitzer, alongside 76mm ZiS-3 divisional guns, 100mm KS-19 anti-aircraft guns, 85mm anti-aircraft guns, and Katyusha multiple rocket launchers, with substantial armored force also supported by the Soviets. The North Korean Air Force was relatively weak, but they could still potentially win against South Korea.
South Korea: Their equipment and training for conventional warfare were poor. They lacked tanks and fighter planes, did not have the technology to produce them, and were short on resources. Additionally, the US forces were withdrawn due to the Acheson line, and the most basic weapon for infantry, rifles, were primarily the 99-type rifles left by the Japanese army during the initial phase. Their artillery was also underpowered, and they completely lacked armored and air force capabilities, with a weak navy and poorly organized army headquarters.
