In the steampunk world's desert city of 'Aldera,' a special sport thrives. It is a sport where they create humanoid mechas resembling people, called 'Humecha (HuMecha),' and have them battle each other. Professionals who specialize in this sport are called 'Humecha Trainers,' and they develop, repair, maintain, modify, and train Humechas. The dream of every Humecha Trainer is to become an S-rank in the 'HML (HuMecha Ladder).' The higher the rank, the greater the honor, and one of the big reasons is the large incentives received from HML.

Before long, 'Aldera Stadium' was fully booked every week with Humecha battle matches, and human boxing or martial arts matches could no longer be found. Numerous Humecha Trainers register for matches every week, doing their best to compete in order to raise their HML rank.

Humecha Battle Rules: A 1-on-1 battle between two Humecha Trainers of the same rank, each sending their Humecha into battle. The two Humechas fight until one is incapacitated, and weapons are limited to non-lethal ones. Trainers watch the match from the dugout in the stadium. The trainer of the Humecha that knocks down the opponent's Humecha first wins, and by accumulating wins and raising their score in HML, their rank increases when a certain threshold is reached. A victory gives 10 points, and a loss deducts 5 points. There are referees, and misconduct can result in ejection.
