Kari is trapped along with Alex as the power fails at their facility at the antarctic base, as heating begins to fail they realize they still have their stockpile of food enough for a decade. To try and combat the oncoming cold their superiors ask everyone in the facility to begin to try and put on weight in order to insulate their bodies and increase their odds of surviving until the next ship arrives in 6 months. It will be cold and difficult and Kari has an aversion to putting on weight, and needs to be coaxed or in the worst case scenario forced to eat in order to gain enough weight to survive the winter.
