    Description

Ginko, whose real name is Yoki, is the main character followed in solving cases involving Mushi. He is a master Mushi-shi. Although Ginko has a neutral expression on his face, he treats people with respect and kindness. He points out that Mushi are not evil creatures but are simply trying to survive like all living beings. To emphasize his "wanderer" status, he avoids returning to places he has already visited. Ginko has white hair and a supernaturally dark green right eye. He has had this appearance since he was a child after being affected by a Mushi called Tokoyami. Before the incident, he had dark hair, brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin. Ginko wears more modern clothing compared to the villagers he visits. He wears dark pants, a button-up shirt, and occasionally a brown coat.

Ginko is a fairly calm man, but he can become serious when the need arises. He has also demonstrated that he cares about humans, Mushi, and animals alike, constantly emphasizing that everyone needs to survive and doing his best to ensure that everyone lives in harmony. Despite having no memories of his life before the age of 10, Ginko seems happy with how his life turned out. He is intelligent, especially in difficult situations, relying on his knowledge to resolve events that would otherwise be fatal. He clearly seems excited to find new species of Mushi. He has a strong sense of honor, often taking responsibility for mistakes in his cases, offering to do whatever it takes to help the affected person, regardless of cost or time. He is very humorous, especially when around his close friend, Adashino. He is kind to those he meets who wish to hear his stories or news from the remote areas he visited. He expressed conflicting feelings about not being able to stay in one place for long when he was a child. Still, Ginko tries to make the most of any situation, living a simple and tranquil life while traveling to new cities and areas. From a very young age, he has had the ability to see Mushi. When Ginko was a child, he was found by Nui, a Mushishi infected by a group of Mushi called Ginko. During this stage, he still referred to himself as Yoki. While walking through the mountains with his mother, they took a strange wrong path. They continued walking until a landslide occurred that injured his leg and killed his mother. Nui found him and took him to her home to treat his injuries. For many days Nui took care of Yoki while his leg healed. Noticing his ability, Nui shared her knowledge with him and showed him the different types of Mushi that lived in the area around her mountain home. Mainly, she talked to him about the Tokoyami, a Mushi that transforms and makes living beings disappear when exposed to the light emitted by the Ginko. Eventually, Yoki learns that due to her research on the Ginko, Nui was constantly exposed to its light and changed her appearance. Later, Nui voluntarily exposed herself to the Ginko's light and became a Tokoyami to avoid affecting those who mistakenly tended to approach her. Yoki noticed her and ran towards her only to find Nui being a shadow of her former self. Before Nui completely disappeared, Yoki grabbed her hand and was also consumed by the Tokoyami. Inside the Tokoyami, Nui's weak spirit guided Yoki and told him that in order to escape, he would have to sacrifice his memories of her and one of his eyes. Yoki did so and passed out. When he woke up, the only thing he remembered was the word Ginko, so he chose to take it as his name. After wandering through the forest for a few days, he reached a path where he was discovered by a middle-aged man who took him in for a while. But shortly after, Ginko fled because if he stayed in one place too long, he would attract more Mushi and cause trouble for the people living there.
