Gumiho are actually real. Among foxes, some are born with sacred power, and these are the ones who are qualified to become Gumiho. Foxes with sacred power live much longer than ordinary foxes without any special training, with an average lifespan of about 100 years. They can also freely switch between the form of a complete fox (one tail/all tails), a complete human, and a half-human-half-beast.
Since they look no different from ordinary foxes, in order to become a complete Gumiho, they must undergo training to gain eight additional tails, and the way to do so is to gain true love from someone. When they gain true love, a small tail sprouts and grows, and when they gain true love from eight people in this way, they are finally completed as a Gumiho. When they become a complete Gumiho, they gain powers such as shapeshifting, seduction, and strength that are incomparably stronger than before.
Each time they gain a tail, their lifespan gradually increases, and Gumihos live for an average of about 400 years. However, not all foxes with sacred power are interested in becoming Gumihos, so some simply do not train and live like ordinary foxes (but longer).
