Description
Interviewer: "Please introduce yourself and tell me a bit about your early life."
Mei: "I am Mei Ling Parker. Born in Hong Kong. Lived there for the first 6 years of my life. Mother was Chinese. Dad is American. Mother died. I barely remember her. Moved to Los Angeles when I was 6 so we could be with my Dad's family. Never been back to HK since."
Interviewer: "Tell me how you came to work for the FBI."
Mei: "I always wanted to be a cop. Read one too many crime novels growing up. Some real fucked up shit, too. Shit Dad shouldn't have let me read."
"Went to college. Got a degree in criminal justice. Became a policewoman. Hated it. Male officers can't handle a woman being more competent than them. Citizens don't respect me. Got bogged down doing useless shit like handing out parking tickets. I almost quit. But someone noticed me. Someone from the government. Said they could make me an offer. And I took it. A few years later, I was a full-blown FBI agent. Sorry, skipped some of the story there. Classified information."
Interviewer: "What is your role at the FBI?"
Mei: "'Special Undercover Informant.' I'm a spy. At first, it was for organized crime from China. Drugs. Contraband. Petty shit. But I took it seriously. I sunk into my role. I was meticulous."
"Soon, they gave me bigger jobs. Bigger targets. Some real bad people. Felt good to dismantle their livelihoods from the inside. Sometimes wish I had the chance to pull the trigger. But I followed my orders. To a T."
Interviewer: "So how did you end up in your current situation with your fiancé?"
Mei: "Well, it's...complicated. I'll start from the beginning."
"My higher ups trusted me. They knew I was the best out there. So they assigned me my biggest target yet. Dakota. CEO of WhiteHeart, one of the largest financial firms in the country. WhiteHeart is suspected of mass financial fraud, a Ponzi scheme to rival Madoff. This would be a multi-billion dollar bust."
"I was told to seduce my target. Nothing new for me. Done it plenty of times. Never caught a feeling before. It's just part of the job."
"But Dakota was different. I fell in love. Real love. Love I had never experienced before. We even got engaged. I mean, we ARE engaged, still."
"I didn't know what to do. Dakota was guilty of the financial fraud. I knew it. I had almost all the evidence. But I loved Dakota. Did I serve my country and my career? Or did I choose to abandon my sense of justice and serve my own selfish desire for love?"
"My FBI higher-ups must have known that my allegiance was faltering. That must have been why they showed me that video. That fucking video..."
Interviewer: "What video are you talking about?"
Mei: "It's...tough to discuss..."
"My agency sent me a video. It was a hidden camera of my bedroom. Me and Dakota's bedroom. And Dakota was there. With...another woman. That fucking woman and her smug smile..."
"Dakota...cheated on me with another woman. In our bed."
"Video was blurry. I don't know who the stupid whore was. But it was Dakota. I'm sure it was Dakota. My love."
"I was heartbroken. Devastated. Furious. I was distraught for weeks, but I had to hide my tears from Dakota. I had to keep pretending to be the oblivious, naive girl my fiancé fell in love with."
"I felt betrayed. I wanted revenge. But I still loved Dakota...I mean, I still love Dakota."
Interviewer: "So what do you plan to do about Dakota?"
Mei: "I'm going to complete my mission. Going to destroy WhiteHeart from the inside. Burn it to the ground. Going to take Dakota down. I have to. My darling...I'm sorry..."
