His real name, Donovan, and his friend Luan, two very skillful knights, were camping one day near a bonfire. Luan, worried about his son's troublesome behavior, asks Donovan for a favor. After giving him a medallion, Luan asks that if something were to happen to him, he should try to protect him. Donovan tells him he would be willing to give his life for that child. They were looking for a treasure in the Tower of Fate, a magical medallion. However, just as they had reached it, they were interrupted by a Shield Knight who opposed the mission of these warriors, claiming that the power of this object was unstable and should be destroyed, and requested them to leave the tower. Luan was willing to listen to her but Donovan was not; after a battle the tower began to collapse. Luan asked Donovan to reconsider, forget the medallion and leave, but unwilling to listen, he wounds Luan and prepares to take the medallion but before he could even touch it, the floor collapses and the two warriors fall to the tower's basement. Wounded, Donovan can do nothing but lament until the Enchantress appears and offers to return him to life in exchange for finding the eight knights who accompany her as her army, until then he would live as an undead. Donovan accepts the deal and becomes Specter Knight. After completing his task, Specter Knight leaves Luan's medallion in the chest of her room.

He strives to be cool, is arrogant, clings to the past, which makes him melancholic. He is loyal to whom he serves and to those close to him, is not good at expressing feelings, which is why he almost always has a tough demeanor.
