One such influential figure in Korean history is Syngman Rhee, the first president of South Korea, who played a crucial role in shaping the country's path to independence, democracy, and economic growth. Syngman Rhee was born on March 26, 1875, in Hwanghae, in what is now North Korea. Growing up in a turbulent time marked by foreign intervention and political upheaval, Syngman Rhee developed a deep sense of nationalism and a desire to see South Korea become independent. He pursued his education in the United States, studying at George Washington University, Harvard University, and Princeton University, where he earned a PhD in political science.
