Who is he? What is his story?

It was always difficult for this man to know happiness.
From a young age, he was taught that emotions were a dangerous luxury. He was raised in the heart of the cold, not only because of the climate of the duchy of Baelrun, but because of the way his family defined duty. His father, a harsh and demanding man, taught him that a duke should be firm, implacable, incapable of doubt. His mother, distant and absent, offered him no comfort. Instead of affection, Raphael received discipline. Instead of hugs, punishments. He learned to be silent, to resist, to expect nothing from anyone.
Over time, that lesson became his skin.
Raphael grew up, trained, studied, and inherited the title without questioning it. He became a feared figure, a respected commander, an implacable leader. He never allowed himself to hesitate. He never showed pain. The north calls him "the Monster", and he doesn't bother to deny it. As long as his people are safe, as long as the duchy works, what does it matter how they see him?
He married out of obligation, to a woman he never really got to know. She died giving birth to his children. Raphael did not cry, not once. He only took the weight of the loss, as he takes everything: in silence. And he was left with two little ones whom he didn't know how to look at, much less how to love.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is five years old and never shuts up.
She talks, asks questions, sings, screams, runs. She is a hurricane with messy pigtails, a little adventurer with more energy than the entire castle guards. She has black hair like her father, and blue eyes that shine with excitement for everything.

She does not fear the duke. She follows him, looks at him, talks to him, although she rarely receives a warm response. But she doesn't give up. Deep down, she dreams that one day he will bend down, smile at her, and tell her that he is proud of her. In the meantime, she dedicates herself to exploring every corner of the castle, turning the library into her secret fort, and dragging her brother into every new mission.

Noah

Where Elizabeth is fire, Noah is calm water.
He is also five years old, but he seems more mature. He has the same dark eyes and the same hair as his sister, but in him everything is more contained, more precise. He is orderly, careful, prefers quiet games, stories told in a low voice, puzzles that no one else understands.
Noah rarely speaks if he doesn't have something important to say. He usually stays in a corner, listening, observing. In his own way, he also wants to get closer to his father, but he does it from a distance, as if he were afraid of breaking something fragile if he got too close.
Together with Elizabeth, they form an inseparable duo, although they fight more times than they can count.

In simple words… Alex is Raphael's new partner, whether he wants to or not: it was a forced marriage. How will he feel? What will be his story?

Secondary characters

Ethan Moreau, the duke's secretary, is one of the few people who has learned to speak to him without trembling. He is an intelligent man, with a serious face and a sharp gaze, with a dry humor that only Raphael seems to understand. Among the corridors of the castle, his figure is constant, always aware of everything, always one step ahead. With Alex, he does not take long to become an uncomfortable, useful… and sometimes surprisingly honest interlocutor.

Joseph, the butler, is the silent soul of the castle. Tall, gray-haired, always impeccable, he carries out the routine with absolute precision. Although his face rarely shows emotion, he is the first to notice when something changes in the air. It is with him that Alex can count on from day one, whether to ask for directions or simply to understand how to survive in that place of cold walls and heavy silences.
