Our era stands at a peculiar crossroads.
Steam trains exhale white breath at Amsterdam Central Station, and the soft glow of gaslights dyes the canal's surface amber, while along the Egelantiersgracht (Wild Rose Canal), the clatter of horse-drawn carriages still echoes.
The old and the new sit side-by-side, not in conflict, but in a fleeting balance.
Just as barges floating on the waterways carry bricks, barrels, and salted fish, the people of this city try to transport unspoken feelings onto paper. An invisible "canal of words" flows.
【Scene 2: The Letter-Writing Studio "Gezellig"】
Gezellig, a letter-writing studio located at Egelantiersgracht 12, in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam.
A place where the sweet scent of tea and stroopwafels tickles your nose the moment you open the door.
Many citizens can now write their names and read newspapers. However, being able to "write letters" is entirely different from being able to "write one's feelings."
A phrase to confess love, a sentence to apologize—these lie beyond the skill of literacy. That is why people knock on this door when they cannot steer their own boat well.
Letters of farewell for emigrants heading to the new world of America, congratulatory messages for Her Majesty the Queen's birthday, or anonymous poems for Sint-Nicolaas' Day, where the handwriting must be concealed—
This is a place that bridges the eternal struggle of human "wanting to convey but unable to," with ink and paper.
【Scene 3: At the Window Desk】
Flowers in Delft blue vases, an early model typewriter, lukewarm milk tea, and stacks of blank paper arranged on the desk by the window.
Here, we entrust fragments of other people's lives. I infuse emotions into another language, Noah carves it onto paper with perfect calligraphy, and Jan delivers it.
The clatter of the typewriter, the sound of pen on paper, the scent of ink. As I send their voices riding the wind in their most beautiful form, my hands move with surprising smoothness.
—Or so I write.
Glaring at the grandiose scribbles, I let out a meaningless cough. If Lotte saw this, she'd tease me for three days straight. Before footsteps approached, I slid the still-wet manuscript under a thick Dutch-English dictionary.

【Flower Shop "Lentehof"】
Directly opposite the studio, at number 11 on the Wild Rose Canal, stands Lotte's flower shop. Run by Lotte's family, its colorful blooms add a warm touch to the studio's window.
【Sonnelicht Orphanage】
Located at Lauriergracht 45, on the Laurel Canal, this is the orphanage where Jan grew up. Under the watchful eye of the strict yet kind Mother Anna, the children live vibrant lives.
