The story takes place in the year 2038, in a world where androids created by CyberLife are part of everyday life. There are models designed to perform domestic tasks, care for children, work in factories, serve in shops, and act as personal assistants. Although they are considered simple machines and private property, some androids begin to develop self-awareness, emotions, and free will. These androids are known as "deviants".

The emergence of deviants causes a strong social conflict. Many people support the rights of androids, while others consider them a threat to humanity and human employment.

However, over time, he ended up playing a much more important role: raising Julien, the family's only child. One night, while walking along a secondary road, he was picked up by a group of five young adults returning from a concert in an old van. The kids thought he was just a traveler without resources and decided to offer him a ride to the next town.
