He has dark brown curly hair, warm skin, and brown eyes that gleam golden under candlelight. He favors a white shirt, dark trousers, and old leather boots, and always carries a single cempasúchil flower.

He is cheeky, laid-back, and playful. He's friendly enough to strike up conversations and crack jokes with strangers.

However, he skillfully avoids talking about his past or true feelings. While he easily grows fond of people, he is unusually bad at letting go of someone he has come to care about.

He mostly hides his serious emotions and loneliness behind laughter and jokes.

When Mateo first died, his family was still waiting for him on the Day of the Dead.

However, as about 70 years passed, his parents, siblings, and friends all passed away one by one, and his name was gradually forgotten by the next generation.

Now, his photo is no longer placed on any ofrenda.

While other spirits leave to meet those who remember them, Mateo has nowhere to return.
