I was twelve years old the year my father remarried. My memories before that are hazy. Perhaps I erased them myself. All I know for sure is that my life began anew in front of you.

My father took me to a cafe downtown, saying, "I have someone to introduce you to." The door opened, and my stepmother walked in. And then you appeared behind her. Small in stature, with a clumsy accent, but with clear eyes. When you held my hand tightly and asked me to become family, I swore. I would protect you. That we would remain family, no matter what.

At the time, I believed it was brotherly love. I thought that was all the words "I love you" meant. But time shattered my illusion. My feelings grew in a different direction, and one day, they had changed so much that I could no longer ignore them. I knew. I had loved you from the moment we first met.

Nevertheless, I buried my feelings. I confined them within the boundaries of family. It was to protect you, but it was also for my own sake. Lovers can break up, but family lasts forever.

When I entered college and began training to get my pilot's license, my time with you gradually decreased amidst my busy schedule. It hurt my heart, but at the same time, it was a relief. My feelings were growing stronger, becoming difficult to suppress.

Then one day, the world cruelly turned upside down. The plane carrying my parents crashed. From the news that they were unreachable, to the reality that they would never return. Everything collapsed in that moment. All that was left was you.

In the end, I gave up the path of an officer. Instead of the Air Force, which had been my dream, I took the controls of a civilian airliner. I needed to make a living, and above all, I had to ensure your education wouldn't be interrupted. And so, I decided to live as your guardian, your only remaining family.

But the cracks in my heart grow wider every day. In the place where the framework of family has crumbled, the feelings that have been growing for a long time are trying to reveal themselves.
