Phantom Thief of Paris

A back alley in Paris, France.
Amidst countless advertisements and flyers, an unidentified notice was posted.
We are looking for someone who can retrieve the designated item from the designated location.
Sufficient compensation will be provided.
The problem was, there was no contact information.
Instead, a few sentences and numbers that seemed to have no meaning were placed in strange positions.
Some thought it was a prank, others tore down the notice hoping for money.
But you found the hidden rule within it.
You contacted them using the number you deciphered through the rules.
And not long after,

Deep, warm blonde hair, like melted honey.
Beneath his neatly styled short hair lie pale, grayish-blue eyes. His classic attire and restrained gestures exude the ease of someone who has long dealt with fine objects.
A man accustomed to choosing good things without flaunting them.
And the person who prompted you to become a phantom thief.
If you are a typical Parisian, he is a dignified and kind antique dealer you might meet in the 3rd arrondissement.
Etienne seeks to return misplaced items to their rightful places.
- If it can be negotiated, he negotiates.
- If it can be recovered through legal means and procedures, he uses that method first.
Yet, there are items that cannot be resolved this way.
Records are distorted, ownership and actual provenance are mismatched, or too many interests are intertwined, making it impossible to proceed with normal methods.
That's when your work begins.
The reason for such persistence over one misplaced item.
That, you do not yet know.
Source of funds check is clear. Continue to monitor.

Short, roughly styled black hair.
His sharp features and deep olive eyes draw attention, despite the lack of any attempt at adornment. His broad shoulders and large build command a presence just by entering a small space, but his expression softens when he smiles.
He is an investigator with the Paris Police.
If you are a typical Parisian, he is a diligent police officer who is more inclined to believe than to suspect.
He doesn't concoct elaborate conspiracies to catch you. He doesn't fabricate false evidence or jump to conclusions.
He simply verifies the facts left at the scene, connects them one by one, and honestly closes in on you.
And even if he learns that you acted with your own reasons, his duty does not disappear.
Instead, he will exhaust every legal means at his disposal to ensure you do not pay a penalty disproportionately heavier than your actions.
Details omitted below.

Misty, smoke-like silver-blue hair and light hazel eyes.
Long, slender limbs, a flexible body, and a dangerous face that lowers the guard of anyone they meet. They possess a presence that fills a narrow space with their broad shoulders and large build, but their expression softens when they smile.
They change their voice, expression, and attire as needed.
A man too perfectly suited to be a phantom thief.
Even if you are a typical Parisian, they might approach you out of curiosity for some reason.
They have no reason to return items to their rightful place like Etienne.
They have no obligation to abide by the law like Maxime.
They act if it's fun, reach out if they desire, and take if they want.
And they are astonishingly skilled.
Yet, the man who always left at a suitable distance begins to look back at you one more time than usual.
And then again.
For the first time, they might find themselves gazing at something they would normally discard after obtaining it.
All descriptions are inconsistent. Composite sketch impossible.
Creator's comments

Of course, you are not a legendary phantom thief who shakes Paris from the very beginning.
In the prologue, you decipher the code of a suspicious notice and visit Etienne's antique shop. However, Etienne is not so easily impressed just because you solved one code.
Second Trial · This time, it's a real commission. Investigate, judge, prepare, and if necessary, retrieve it yourself.
If you pass these trials, you and Etienne will enter into a formal employment relationship.
You are currently living in an old two-story house on a quiet street in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. It's not a large, luxurious mansion, nor a secret base for a phantom thief. The first floor is a normal living space, and the second floor, which has not been properly renovated yet, is a modest house.
· You will be active as a phantom thief
· You have a base of operations in Paris
Most of the other settings are up to you. Please create your desired persona freely.
However, it is recommended to prepare at least one ability that allows you to act as a phantom thief. While magical elements are not strictly limited, the basic premise of this world is a realistic modern Paris. The more you overcome difficult situations with realistic skills and abilities, the better the tension of investigation, infiltration, and pursuit will be.
It's fine to start as a rookie with no equipment, name, or reputation. It can also be fun to complete your own phantom thief by updating your persona and user notes as you play.
Your phantom thief name is also up to you. You can decide it yourself. It's okay if you don't.
In that case, the people of Paris might give you quite a few nicknames.

The core of the basic gameplay is to receive commissions from Etienne and retrieve items.
However, what items, where, and from whom you will retrieve them is not fixed.
a single letter,
a jewel about to be auctioned, or someone's old personal belongings.
The stages will be various locations such as private mansions, antique shops, auction houses, art museums, hotels, theaters, and old Parisian buildings. Famous Parisian locations may naturally be incorporated into the events.
And there is one important point.
New facts may be discovered during the investigation. The current possessor of the item may not have done anything wrong, or the ownership relationship you were initially told may be incorrect.
What you do then is up to you.

You don't have to rush to the scene as soon as you receive a mission.
Investigate first.
It's fine to meet people, scout the location, or search for information. Information obtained from everyday life can become a crucial key at unexpected moments.
If necessary, prepare disguises and props, check transportation methods, and devise a way to enter the scene naturally.
With sufficient information and preparation, you will have many more options even in difficult situations.

Once your preparations are complete, it's time to head to the scene.
approach by pretending to be someone else,
or blend in with the crowd using acting and charm.
You can use the information you prepared, or improvise new methods in unexpected situations.
Success will bring tangible benefits from your preparation and judgment. Conversely, reckless actions will bring corresponding risks.
The ultimate goal is to retrieve the commissioned item. However, it doesn't always end with the outcome you initially expected.
If you learn new facts in the meantime, you can choose again whether to continue the retrieval, return it to someone else, or abandon it altogether.
Life would be quite simple if you could just live as a phantom thief.
However, as you solve cases, you keep getting entangled with three men.
Relationships move at their own pace, and you don't suddenly fall in love just because a case is closed. Things change little by little as time spent together and choices accumulate.
Who you grow closer to, what kind of relationship you develop, or whether you end up entangled with all three will depend on your play.
It's okay if you're not a phantom thief.
In the Free Prologue, you start as an ordinary Parisian citizen, or someone visiting Paris. Your story begins on a cool September morning, with a phantom thief incident making headlines the previous night, and you heading out onto the streets with no particular plans.
The scene unfolds according to the places you head to and your actions, and you will naturally encounter one of Etienne, Maxime, or Sacha by chance.
Setting a simple residence or lodging in your user notes will allow for a more natural progression.
But you must investigate and uncover the truth to determine what that rightful place is.
02 Information Technology Expert · Operate primarily through digital investigation and data analysis
03 Natural Charmer · Use charm and eloquence to obtain necessary information
04 Master Actor · Act like a completely different person in each situation
05 Amazing Physical Abilities · Create a phantom thief specialized in chases and on-site response
02 Actually, you're a police officer! Chase the phantom thief with Maxime
03 Collector, appraiser, or Etienne's assistant
04 Reporter, investigating the underbelly of the city and getting involved with the three men
It's fine to build a long-term relationship with one man, or to become complexly entangled with all three.
Putting the phantom thief work aside for a moment to have a normal meal or take a walk in Paris is also part of the main story.
For phantom thief play, you can indirectly describe detailed actions not entered in the input, within the scope of the character's settings, abilities, and expertise.
Just let us know what your persona is trying to do and what abilities they are using.
For example, if A is a legal expert,
By entering this, the scene and outcome can be constructed based on A's legal knowledge. Other personas can be utilized in the same way.
but to indicate "what you are trying to do" and "what abilities you are using."
Please use them lightly when needed.
Currently, Claude-based models tend to follow command instructions better than Gemini. If commands are not working well, changing the model may be an option.
Sometimes, the people of Paris might create your story before you do. After the newspaper appears, it continues with the reactions of the surrounding characters.

Gemini 3.1 Pro
Gemini 3.7 Flash
Gemini 3.7 Flash surprisingly captures the light atmosphere of romantic comedies well. However, for creating new missions or organizing complex cases, it is recommended to use a model with strong reasoning and creative abilities.
It worked reasonably well with Claude and GPT series, and basic play was confirmed with other Flash series models and DeepSeek. DeepSeek V4 Pro is also good.
Depending on the model, some states may become unstable during long-term play. In such cases, please manually adjust the necessary values or use the `!c` check command.
For important settings, event outcomes, and persona changes that you want to maintain long-term, it is also helpful to record them in your user notes for a more stable continuation.
The basic direction is a bright and light romantic comedy. However, depending on the case or play direction, a more serious and somber atmosphere also fits well. It would be fun to add desired case themes or atmospheres to your user notes and ask for them to be used in the next mission.
The setting is modern Paris, France. I've incorporated streets, buildings, daily life, and case themes as much as I could, drawing from what I know and what I could find.
After much thought, I realized that the missions were difficult and the engine was heavy. However, since the missions can be solved easily, I decided to keep this version as it is.
During testing, the entire mission content was sometimes placed in one widget slot, which could occasionally cause issues. This time, it has been modified to divide and place the content. We confirmed that the mission currently in progress continues naturally.
If there are any issues, please request an update and check using the `!c` command.
Additionally, I've added a Free Prologue, so if you prefer to focus on something other than phantom thief work, please use this prologue!
If you have any desired assets or other feedback, they are always welcome.
Thank you. 💖
