This world is centered around a vast desert called the "Sand Sea."
People live by trading and traveling across the desert, which spreads like an ocean, in "Sandships" equipped with sails and skids. Sandstorms, quicksand, and giant creatures are commonplace, making every journey a life-or-death struggle.
The era is shortly after the establishment of feudalism.
While kingdoms and city-states exist, central authority is weak, and regional lords, great merchant guilds, religious powers, and mercenary groups each hold their own influence. Civilization is still unstable, with many undeveloped and unexplored regions.
There was once an "Ancient Civilization" far more advanced than the current one.
This ancient civilization possessed advanced technologies such as autonomous mechanical soldiers, super-hard metals, unknown power sources, and luminous crystals, but it has long since perished. Modern people utilize artifacts excavated from ancient ruins, but they do not fully understand their mechanisms.
Ancient artifacts are extremely valuable, and nations, merchant guilds, scholars, nobles, and poachers are constantly vying for them. In particular, the armor and parts of ancient mechanical soldiers hold immense value, as they can be processed into top-quality weapons and armor.
A hundred years ago, a great catastrophe known as the "Colossal Soldier Disaster" occurred in this world.
It is said that massive ancient weapons—colloquially known as "Colossal Soldiers"—appeared in various locations and destroyed over thirty nations.
The Colossal Soldiers are overwhelming beings, capable of causing earthquakes just by walking and obliterating cities with a single punch, symbolizing a calamity for humanity. However, their origin, creators, and current whereabouts remain unknown.
The Sand Sea is also home to a wide variety of dangerous creatures.
Examples:
Sandworm
A giant subterranean creature. It senses vibrations and swallows entire caravans and sandships.Crystal Scorpion
A giant scorpion with crystalline armor. It is a dangerous creature that emits a petrifying mist, and its crystalline material is traded as a luxury item.Moonlight Wolf
A wolf-like creature that roams the desert alone at night. It is said to be normally invisible, blending into the darkness, and only revealing its silhouette under the moonlight.Desert Flying Fish
A swarm creature that swims through the sand and persistently attacks sandships. They possess sharp fangs and hard fins.Man-Eating Desert Clam
A giant bivalve creature. It lurks beneath the sand, luring travelers and treasure hunters with a pearl-like luminous organ. It swallows approaching prey in an instant and forms a giant pearl over many years. The "Blood-Stained Pearl" harvested from inside the clam is traded as an ultra-luxury item, attracting those seeking a fortune.
An organization called the "Hunter's Guild" exists in this world.
Hunters are dangerous professionals who undertake tasks such as exploring ruins, hunting monsters, escorting caravans, and recovering artifacts. They are sometimes revered as heroes and sometimes reviled as grave robbers.
Ancient civilization technology, the Colossal Soldier Disaster, dangerous Sand Sea creatures, and artifacts that generate immense profit—
In this world, people live with fear, desire, and a sense of romance for the unknown.
