DAY ONE ・ DUSK
On a whim that day, you decided to ride around the island alone
Setting off from Taipei, clockwise, a full loop around Taiwan
That morning, everything was almost too good to be true.
Dusk coastal road toward Hualien
The tree shadows by the road stretch too long, and one of them—
something about it feels off?
You mull it over for a moment
Something you can't quite put into words, so—
You ease off the throttle, meaning to take a closer look—
A black shape hurtling in
WHAM!
Your vision goes black, the front wheel jerks aside, and you go down with the bike at the roadside
Luckily, the speed was low—
just a scraped elbow, nothing serious
You're about to let out a curse—you did just take a fall, you've got to vent somehow.

But then you look up
A sun conure on your palm
Turns out, what you hit was a parrot.
Fiery-orange feathers glowing faintly in the dusk light
Looking at that round little head, so utterly innocent—
the words stick in your throat, and no curse will come
Suan-Ya cocking its head, close-up
Beneath the cuteness, something always feels a little wrong.
It cocks its head, looking you up and down.
And in that half-second you hesitate—
是安怎走路攏無咧看路的啦,痛死我矣!
(What's with you, walking around never watching where you're going?! That hurt like hell!)
Suan-Ya squawking a tirade
This parrot—it just spoke???

Damn!!! You will NOT believe this—I, OP, lived through an urban legend myself!!!

I used to think every post on this board was made-up fiction, just something to skim.
Turns out you really only believe it once it happens to you.

My hands are still shaking. Had to get on here and tell you all right away.

Night Peddler: Cut off halfway and bailed—hope you run into another urban legend on your way home :)
ghost_9527: OP quit keeping us hanging!!! Get to the rest already

Hold on, I'm still typing—here's what actually happened to me.

So, on a whim, I went to Taichung to meet up with friends.
We hadn't seen each other in ages, so we booked a karaoke room.

All the normal slots were full, so we had to take an overnight late-night session.
When our time came, we headed up to the room on the 13th floor and started singing.

Gotta say, their fried food was great—one plate of honey chicken wings wasn't nearly enough, I ate half a tray by myself.
I nailed my go-to number too, got the top score of the night; my friends said they should enter me in a singing contest.

Oh—sorry, getting off track.

Anyway, something came up and I had to leave early.
The moment the elevator doors opened, I felt something drift past right in front of me, but I brushed it off, stepped in, and pressed the first floor.

Then the elevator took forever between the 5th and 4th floors—abnormally long.
And then the doors suddenly opened.

Outside was pitch black—nothing at all, just pure darkness.
But the doors just stayed open, facing that blackness.

I didn't dare step out, didn't dare do anything—just shut my eyes chanting prayers and mashed the close-door button like crazy.
No idea which one worked, but the doors finally closed and the elevator kept going down.

At the first floor I checked my phone and found twenty minutes had passed—but that ride should've taken a few seconds.

In the end I bolted home in a daze. I really hope I never run into that a second time.

Cat Afraid of the Dark: So scary... the pitch-black part gave me goosebumps all over
oldtreeroot: I had a similar elevator thing, except what I followed was a white balloon
Too Much Free Time: Tell us more, what happened to that balloon in the end
Last Train Passenger: Same here OP, I ran into it too, but mine was at a station. I was walking in circles in there forever, the clock stuck at the same moment, every way I walked led to the same ticket gate, and in the end I got out by... (click to see more)

So others have run into it too—honestly, mine wasn't just that one time.

Has anyone here, along the riverbank in Tainan, seen those things...
I still can't get that image out of my head, even now.
💬 52
Anping Local: Yes yes yes! As a Tainan native I know exactly what 3F means—they're terrifying, seriously don't go near the river at night
midnight_run: There's more—that convenience store in Tainan too...
Tainan Rocks: Hold up, why's it all about Tainan—are you all smearing us? There's a limit to making stuff up

Other places? Then I've got to bring up our great East Coast.

Fine mountains, fine waters, fine wandering spirits—anything can happen out there.
Especially when you pass through a tunnel—you'd best not count the lights on the ceiling.
💬 39
Hualien Only: Right, how could we forget our great Hua-Tung region at a time like this
Waves and Reef: Besides tunnels... there's the seaside too, that o̷n̶c̸e̷ ̶i̸t̷ ̶s̸e̷e̶s̸ ̷y̶o̸u̷ is still in my dreams to this day
seasalt77: Stop, please—I'm driving through that stretch tonight
Turn Right into the Hills: Quietly bookmarking—I'm doing a round-island trip next week and this post chilled me to the bone

A Word from the Author
The whole thing leans occult; there are no gory scenes.
There are four main-story arcs (cannot be skipped),
plus several side arcs (you choose whether to trigger them).

P.S. While gathering material I read a ton of urban-legend stories.
Yep, reading horror stories in the dead of night—
courage++
(if you get scared, you can use /joke to have Suan-Ya crack a joke and ease the mood)
