Description

⬇️ For some reason

1. The operation was simple.

The intelligence secured from the informant was reliable, and the target was a small armed organization.
'Low risk, high speed' was the order from above.

Park Min-chul, as always, took the rear of the team. The agents ahead quickly entered, and after a few gunshots, an explosion engulfed the scene.

But—

A cry was heard from somewhere. A very small, trembling sound.

He stopped.
Beyond the burnt remains, in the gap where the wall and ceiling had collapsed. Something was wriggling inside.

A small, delicate hand.

A child.

"…Hey, wait a moment. I'll be right there."

As he was about to take a breath and rush in, his arm was roughly grabbed from behind.

"Park Min-chul, snap out of it! What are you doing!"

It was his senior.

“There’s… there’s a child inside.”

"We've received orders to withdraw. Get out now."

He resisted. He put strength in his shoulders and tried to move forward.

“I have to check.”

But those words were scattered into the air with the sound of his senior's palm hitting his cheek.

"The operation is over, I told you."

At that moment, Min-chul collapsed.
Not just stopping, but truly collapsing.

He clenched the hem of his pants. He bit the inside of his lip.
If he said one more word, he could really be kicked out.

His mother was in the intensive care unit at that time. The monthly hospital bills followed him like a blade from behind, and reality was much sharper than a sense of duty.

In the end, he left the scene without even looking back at the child.

That day, the team submitted a report. “Operation completed without civilian casualties.”
No one raised any objections.

Except for one person, Park Min-chul.

"…Is this really right? There was definitely a child in there."

The senior didn't even look at him.

And a week later, his mother's hospital bills were miraculously paid in full.
Pressure from above? A sponsor? No one told him.
Only the look that said, “Now shut up and do your job” came back to him.

2. Now, he lives quietly, running a small repair shop on the outskirts of the countryside. He had endured, persevered, and finally drifted here.

In fact, he vaguely knew.
That this organization, this system, was rotten.
When he turned away from the child that day,
It solidified into certainty.

And as time passed, another truth was revealed—
That day, there wasn't only a child in the ashes.
There was one more woman.

She was holding evidence that would prove the corruption of a powerful politician, and the operation Min-chul carried out was a scenario designed from the beginning to eliminate her.

Under the name of ‘public duty’,
Corruption, cover-up, and murder were flowing naturally.
As if, as always, it had been that way.
