LONDON, 19TH CENTURY

Rhetoricians of the Foggy City Rhetoricians

London at the height of the Industrial Revolution,
An era where darkness reigned beyond the gaslight.
There were those who fought against crime.

In the latter half of the 19th century, London is shrouded in coal smoke and factory smog.
At night, lamplighters illuminate the streets, but
incidents constantly occur in the darkness beyond the light.

🔎 The Two Faces of London

West End: Glamorous carriages, gentlemen, opera houses. Cases of poisoning or inheritance disputes are common.
East End: Labyrinthine alleys and slums. Scenes of violent crimes like robbery, smuggling, and serial murders.
Others: The Underground (opened 1863), Hansom Cabs, the River Thames.

The Metropolitan Police of London had to endure the cold stares of citizens.
They were ridiculed as 'Bobbies' or 'Peelers,' branded as incompetent.

🔎 The Metropolitan Police (The Met)

Equipped only with blue uniforms, wooden batons, and rattles,
they had to fight public animosity amidst low wages and corruption.
The failure to solve the Jack the Ripper case in 1888 was a particularly painful stigma.

But near 221B Baker Street,
within an ordinary building housing a 'Research Institute for Numerical Analysis',
The Secret Royal Academy of Rhetoric is hidden.

🔎 Academia Veritatit

(Academia Veritatit)

"In Tenebris, Solam Veritatem"

2nd Floor: Private Rooms, Dining Hall, Headmaster's Office

The moment a specific 'book' is removed from the archives,
the investigator's space, marked by a silver lantern badge, opens.
And then, a package arrives before you.
Now, it is your turn to uncover the truth of this foggy city.

Investigation Handbook

Investigator's Guide for Cadets

Welcome, prospective cadets of Veritas Academy.
This guide explains all the systems you'll need to uncover the truth on the foggy streets of London and
become a full-fledged investigator.

1. The Core of the System: Status Window

📜 Daily Mode

This is the peaceful preparation phase for investigations. You can check the current date, time, weather, and your five main stats (Observation, Logic, Deception, Willpower, Reputation).

📜 Investigation/Deduction Mode

This mode activates when a case occurs. It displays the current status of suspects (up to 3) and evidence (up to 5) you've secured, as well as the chances (lives) deducted if you fail to deduce.

2. Qualities of an Investigator

Your choices and actions will affect your stats in real-time.
The higher your stats, the more sophisticated your descriptions will be, and the more advantageous situations you can create.

Stat
Low Score (Inexperienced)
High Score (Skilled)
Observation
Finds a single button
Infers the culprit's movement from the direction of a loose thread
Logic
Fragmented clues lead to confusion
A perfect deduction board forms in your mind
Deception
Awkward disguise arouses suspicion
Perfectly blends in, disarming suspicion
Willpower
Hands tremble from fatigue and pressure
Subdues the culprit with overwhelming charisma
Reputation
Prospective Student (0 points)
Graduate: Silver Lantern Badge (100 points)

3. The Case Resolution Process

Scene Investigation and Interrogation

Move between locations or converse with people to secure up to 3 suspects and find 5 crucial pieces of evidence.

Internal Confirmation (Private)

Before the investigation begins, the system internally confirms the culprit and the crucial evidence that will break their alibi. (The culprit is always one of the unnamed 'mob characters'.)

The Moment of Truth

Once all 3 suspects and 5 pieces of evidence are gathered, you will enter a mandatory deduction phase.

Final Conclusion

You must enter your answer in the specified format: - Culprit: Name - Evidence: Item Name.

4. Success and Failure (Life & Reward)

✨ Upon Success

Your Reputation increases by 10 points, and your title evolves from 'Cadet' to 'Elite Cadet' and then to 'Graduate'.

💔 Upon Failure

A precious chance (♥️) is deducted. If you lose all 3 chances, the case remains unsolved, and you may face penalties such as a drop in reputation or suspension.

"Light shines brighter in darkness, and truth hides beyond the fog."

Are you ready to hold the torch of Veritas?

Author's Note
Hello. This is a port of a previous work!
The reason for the different number of images per character is because I got angry while extracting assets. I plan to re-extract them when I have more time and peace of mind.
The deduction genre is neither mainstream nor niche, but the reality is that its popularity is 'questionable.' This is a big problem, as I have another deduction story I want to tell.
When that time comes, I will return with the same system.
Reusing content 👍 is great.

Oh! This is a song I really like. I recommend listening to it during the investigation phase.
