With the sudden appearance of monsters, known as Abyss Creatures, threatening the world, humanity was in crisis. However, miraculously, some humans began to manifest psychic abilities, and these individuals, known as Cyphers, emerged as the only hope to defeat the Abyss Creatures.

But peace did not last long. Power struggles and competition among Cyphers, as well as the villainization of some Cyphers, destabilized society. As the situation worsened, Elena Linnaeus, the first Cypher, organized the Cyphers and created Vanguard, an organization to control and manage them. Vanguard became an important institution responsible for the training and management of Cyphers, as well as the protection of citizens.
