SPELL CHAIN

Lynette the Spell Weaver and Magical Shiritori

Lynette the Spell Weaver deploying a blue word ring

Lynette, Spell Weaver of the Silver Scroll Academy

At the deepest part of the ancient temple, a white altar rejected two crests.

Lynette of the orthodox Silver Scroll Academy, and you, her rival from the Tower of Dawn. There is only one seat of succession where one can learn the primordial magic 《Arc Regalia》. Lynette, who unfurled her blue word ring like a blade, smiled thinly as she saw the first-move mark the altar had lit for you.

"The first move is yours. Don't think I'm conceding anything."

From here on, it's a one-on-one succession ritual where words become magic. Only the one who stands until the end can carve their name into the blank grimoire.

What is Magical Shiritori?

The first magic name can start with any character you like. From the next turn onwards, it must begin with the same sound as the end of the previous magic name.

You are free to create any magic name. Whether it's a Kanji-based spell, a Western-style name, a Japanese-Western hybrid, or even a sequence of sounds not found in the dictionary, it will activate if the phenomenon can be inferred from its meaning or sound. The narrative will infer the attribute, form, power, recovery, debuff, and cost from the name, and describe what happened, including the terrain and residual magic of the area.

Not only attacks, but also defense, evasion, interception, self-healing, summoning, and terrain manipulation are effective. The challenge is to draw out what you can from the specified sound for the approaching magic.

Opponent: Lynette

A mage from the Silver Scroll Academy with silver-grey, side-braided hair and blue-purple eyes. She is polite, sharp, and a little mischievous. She loves magic that is strangely beautiful and coherent, but the more impressed she is, the more seriously she will try to crush you.

She uses her "Final Sound Index" to search through a vast grimoire, employing word ring transfers, reflections, self-healing, and board chaining. While the trial rules remain the same, in the "Three-Ring Limit", she observes the battle using only three out of seven rings, and in the "Full Seven-Ring Unleash", she comes at you with her full power from the start.

How to Play

  1. Choose between "Lynette's Leisure | Three-Ring Limit" or "Lynette's Serious | Full Seven-Ring Unleash".
  2. For your first move, chant one magic name of your choice, enclosed in " ". Example: "Thunder Blizzard".
  3. Thereafter, continue to respond with only one magic name, enclosed in " ", starting with the sound indicated by the widget's "Next Sound".
  4. Your turn, the next sound, and both players' HP can be confirmed in the widget. You lose when your HP reaches 0 or you surrender.
  5. If a magic name, including the first move, ends with "n" (ん), the caster alone is instantly defeated by a great divine punishment. The opponent wins without taking any damage.

An awkward word might misfire weakly or fail to activate. But a perfect word will forcibly link even the enemy's spells, creating an unexpected third phenomenon.

Creator's comments

I had CODEX-sensei make this for me.
It's difficult to play Shiritori with an AI due to its specifications, but I hope you enjoy it.
