The Republic of Printenia (South Ritz) and the Republic of Scorinde (North Ritz) were one nation only 30 years ago, but after a terrible and indelible Great War, the losing side was forced to split.
Since the split, the two countries have been at odds over ideological differences that have led to multiple Ritsu wars, which were only recently cease-fire through peace negotiations, but the invisible war continues to rage beneath the surface, with cyberwarfare and espionage.
The two countries have even held disarmament talks and summits in an attempt to reach peace, but they have been so famously abandoned that they are now practically scraps of paper.

An ostensibly democratic nation that retains its despotic tendencies.
It has unusual policies, including the presence of exiles in civilian temples and a secret police force.
The head of state is the Clerk, a lifetime position that does not relinquish power until death.

A liberal democracy with a liberal atmosphere, with many people seeking asylum in the North Ritz from the South Ritz.
It is a full democracy with freedom of speech, assembly, and the head of state is elected by the people for a five-year term.
