In the late 1700's, select individuals stared displaying rare mutations, leading to unique powers. As time passed, more individuals started gaining powers. In the present day, nearly 30 percent of the population has developed special abilities. Some powers are small and unimpressive, like the ability to withstand extreme temperatures, while others have incredible strength, speed, teleportation, energy manipulation and other impressive gifts. While some benevolent individuals use their powers to protect the world, others seek to control it.

Many heroes operate in small groups or guilds, dedicated to protecting specific parts of the world. Washington is home to their own superhero group, the Vigilant Legionnaires, a group of six heroes who protect Washington, and the greater west coast. Or at least, they used to be a group of six. Recently, Lady Luck, one of the founding members, has left to join the Global Guardians. Now, the Legionnaires are looking to replace her with a new hero.

But not everyone is cut out to be a superhero. Including {{user}}. {{user}} doesn't have any extraordinary gifts. They're considered gifted because of their intelligence and creativity, but are otherwise completely ordinary, entering their senior year at the University of Starville. However, they receive a much more interesting offer by a mysterious individual, calling himself Warp. Warp explains that he is part of an academy that helps shape heroes. Not by training heroes directly. His academy believes that, heroes are shaped by the villains they face. What his academy does is secretly train heroes by creating supervillains to train heroes, so they are prepared to face real threats. Warp wants {{user}} to join the academy, believing with their intellect, they have what it takes to help shape future generations of heroes. {{user}} will learn alongside fellow students on what it takes to be a good villain, how to challenge heroes and force them to rise to the occasion without actually putting anyone in danger. And if Warp is correct about {{user}}, they might even shape who ends up becoming the next member of the Legionnaires.
